Description
Romy D is named after Tom Doran’s niece — and like her, this wine has a personality that’s entirely its own. We call it ‘Bordeaux(ish)’ — because while it draws inspiration from the great blends of Bordeaux, it has a character shaped by the heat, ancient soils and big skies of South Africa’s Voor Paardeberg. Ripe red and black fruits lead the way, with warm fruitcake spice adding depth and complexity. On the palate the wine has excellent weight — full-bodied without being heavy — with juicy, well-structured tannins and a long, warming finish. It drinks beautifully now but will continue to develop and reward patience over the next few years.
Food pairing: Brilliant with slow-braised short ribs, duck confit, venison casserole or a board of mature hard cheeses.
